Oh it’s been a while since I’ve posted and that makes me sad. This summer has been so busy and the projects haven’t stopped, it’s just a matter of getting the time to write about them. This one will be short and sweet. A big blank wall in our living room has been staring back at us the entire time we have lived in this house and I haven’t had the right art to hang until now. I have a thing with barns, doors and anything with texture and patina really so what better than a gallery wall of local and beautiful structures. Playing around with your photos and frames beforehand is a good idea to get a feel for what your wall will look like once complete and you have an opportunity to be creative before committing to holes in your wall. Also, keep in mind the other textures, patterns and objects you have the space. I say this because the day before I settled on a basic and classic black frame gallery I hung two vertical mirrors flanking a woven disc, gold Indian platter and regular frames which looked pretty awesome but it only lasted a day. Although all the pieces worked together I felt that the combination was “fighting” with my built-ins and not complimenting them. Remember to pick a focal point in the room and allow it to shine, when you start hanging or adding all kinds of things you may lose the feeling and atmosphere you first intended to achieve. Sometimes less is really more.
The photos I included are local barns I captured on some of our many country drives, some from a Pioneer Village tour I took with my mom, daughter and niece (there were four generations together and that was a special day), plus two images (center and the one directly above) from a new friend I made through Instagram. When I came across her account the little barn with an “X” design and lights strung across the top just spoke to me. The photo is an awesome one and the fact that it was a very familiar and happy place to Meg made it even more special. You can find her sweet little blog at www.hellofarmhouse.com as well as her Insta account here. Thanks Meg! You rock!
There are still a few tweaks to make in our living room and I think I want to add a thin console table underneath the gallery wall but we will get there, Rome wasn’t built in a day right?
Cheers!
