I wanted to do a little mini tour for you of our “formal” dining and sitting area. The front of the house is kind of a tricky place when it comes to natural light. We face south; have a porch with an over-hang, and dark hardwood so those factors play a huge role in the lack of light that filters through the two windows. These rooms have seen many many pieces of furniture and paint colours. I’m finally beginning to like the front a little more due to the light colour and size of the seating near the front window. I had wicker chairs there that were just not substantial enough in size/scale to fill the space and have the right presence. It always bothered me. I think the space still needs a rug, floor lamp, possibly new dining chairs but I appreciate what we have and know it all takes time.
With spring around the corner and my constant creative desire to refresh our home I utilized what we already had in the house to create a fresh and cheerful atmosphere (except the pink pillow covers from Ikea – they can be used well into spring and summer so I picked them up). Also, the front sitting area is not used as much as it could be and I think that’s because the chairs I had in there were just not cozy or inviting enough. I’m not super big on Valentine’s day but our four year old is, so I have been adding a touch of pink here and there because it’s simply pretty and makes us happy. Another easy update I made was changing out the light bulbs in our dining light fixture. The bulbs that came with it were Edison bulbs, which are very cool and eclectic but the light is actually very yellow. Between the yellow light and greige wall colour I was really starting to dislike the entire space. Light has a huge impact on the overall ambiance of a room and in turn affects your personal mood…and let’s just say the yellow light was making me cranky. The huge mirror was relocated from our landing to the front to allow more light in as well as show off its natural intricate beauty. I hope you like the shots!!
Thanks for stopping by!
