Hey There! I thought I would do a short post to give you some ideas about styling a microwave shelf in your kitchen when you don’t actually own a microwave. We haven’t purchased a stand alone microwave in years…I mean ever. We’ve had a microwave in the form of a dual purpose over the range hood/microwave combo but those were in previous homes and we really never used them so missing it is not an issue. In our current kitchen there is a built-in microwave shelf that is elevated, seamlessly integrated into the upper cabinets and is a great use of space but without the big hunk of metal up there what else can you do? The last thing you want it to become is the shelf of horror by catching anything and everything that comes into the house. I have included three styling ideas that are both practical and pretty so the space isn’t wasted or a nasty eyesore.
Create a happy little kitchen vignette with items related to the space like a colourful book, vase, antique vessel, plants, flowers or herbs. This is really easy to accomplish by shopping your house. Simply look around from room to room and select just a few items that you wouldn’t mind glancing at for various reasons. It may be a plant because it adds life, colour and its harder to forget to water if its in you face :). Or a treasure you found that you would love others to see, just try to keep it relative to the space or it might look totally out of place.
They instantly add colour and interest to the room and are extremely practical. You really can’t go wrong here. The books neatly line the shelf and don’t take away from counter or cabinet space. Win!
Lastly, use your microwave shelf to store your bread. I would suggest to place your goodies in a nice basket that fills the space and also hides the plastic packaging that way you’re not staring at it. Whether it’s an open basket or a cute tin option with a lid, you will always have easy access and the shelf wont look messy.
I hope this was helpful! Cheers
